FAQs
WHEN IS THE RIGHT TIME TO BOOK MY SESSION?
It’s never too early to get on Julia’s calendar for your Newborn session. She books only 2 newborns per week as to allow flexibility in terms of due dates versus actual birth dates. You will receive a tentative date for your session based on your due date, however, these dates can and often do change once baby arrives. For this reason, it is important to get on her calendar sooner than later.
HOW SOON DO I COME FOR MY SESSION AFTER BABY ARRIVES?
Since this is a Newborn session, it’s important that Julia captures your baby in their newest form. Ideally, newborn sessions occur within the first 2 weeks of your baby’s life. They are still very sleepy and Julia is more able to pose them in those curly, snuggled up poses that everyone loves so much. You will receive a Prep Guide a few days before your session that lists some things to help you prepare yourself and your new baby for the session. Julia knows that this time can be a bit overwhelming for new parents and that’s why she takes all the guess work out. You really just need to show up with your baby and their food (breast or bottle) and Julia will take care of the rest!
HOW LONG WILL THE SESSION LAST?
A full newborn session lasts anywhere from 2-4 hours depending on the baby. Julia allows plenty of time for feeding and soothing during these sessions. All babies are different and all sessions are different so this is a rough estimate of how long you can expect to be at the studio.
HOW MANY OUTFITS DO I NEED TO BRING FOR BABY?
None! Before Julia began photographing babies, she designed and created newborn clothing especially for newborn photo sessions. She still maintains this business, Pooks & Lulu, and stocks her studio with all of her creations. Once you fill out your Styling Questionnaire, Julia will select outfits, headbands, hats, and props to suit your color preferences. You are more than welcome to bring one or two outfits of your own to the session and Julia will do her best to incorporate them.
WHAT SHOULD PARENTS/SIBLINGS WEAR?
Keeping it simple is usually best in these situations. Parents posing with their new baby should wear things neutral or muted in color with minimal designs and brand logos, if possible. Moms can wear anything from a simple camisole to a long sleeved top to a maxi dress. Something lacy, if that’s your style, is also beautiful! Dads can go with a basic t-shirt in white, tan, gray, black, soft blue, etc. As long as all the colors flow, it will be fabulous. Also, a very important thing to be mindful of is bra straps and fingernails/hands. Be sure your nails are neat since your hands will definitely be shown in the photos. Siblings should also have neat hands/fingernails (no chipped nail polish please) and clothes should fit well. If shirts or pants are too big, it tends to look sloppy. Julia is always available to help coordinate these outfits.
